You should be about a drains width away from the curb and 1-2 car lenghts past the corner you are reversing around.  Remember POM Prepare Observe Manouever and then start to reverse.  When the rear wheel is level with the last straight curb stone you begin to turn.  You turn 3/4's of a turn to the left trying to follow the curb at the same distance. 

Remeber, Left takes you closer to the curb, Right takes you away from the curb.  If your wide, remember the V to get you closer and then a 1/2 right turn to level the car with the curb followed by a 1/2 left turn to get parallel again.  Once around the curb you straighten the wheel and reverse to 3/4 car lengths back.
